Oklahoma Fuel Taxes: ≈20¢/gal
Oklahoma has one of the lowest state gas taxes in the nation. Oklahoma's state gas tax is about 20 cents per gallon — a 19-cent excise tax plus a 1-cent fee — among the lowest in the country. The rate rose from 17 cents in 2018, its first increase since 1987.
Tax figures are approximate state-level taxes and fees per gallon of regular gasoline and exclude the 18.4¢/gal federal excise tax. Rates change, so verify current rates with the state's revenue or transportation department.
How Oklahoma Gets Its Gasoline
Oklahoma is an oil state with heavy refining and storage infrastructure. Refineries in Ponca City, Tulsa, Ardmore, and Wynnewood give it substantial in-state production, and Cushing — the delivery point for U.S. crude oil futures and the largest crude storage hub in North America — sits in the middle of the state. Plentiful local supply and pipelines running in every direction keep Oklahoma consistently among the cheapest states for gasoline.
Where Gas Is Cheapest and Most Expensive in Oklahoma
Oklahoma City and Tulsa are regularly among the least expensive large metros in the country for gas, with Tulsa helped by its local refineries. Prices stay low and fairly even statewide, with the far western Panhandle — the most remote part of Oklahoma — typically running a few cents higher.
