Louisiana Fuel Taxes: ≈20¢/gal
Louisiana has one of the lowest state gas taxes in the nation. Louisiana's gas tax is about 20 cents per gallon and has not increased since 1990 — one of the lowest and longest-frozen rates in America. Combined with the state's enormous refining industry, this keeps Louisiana consistently among the two or three cheapest states for gasoline.

How Louisiana Gets Its Gasoline
Louisiana sits at the heart of Gulf Coast refining. A string of massive refineries along the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans — including one of the largest in the country — means gasoline is produced practically next door to every market in the state. The main supply risk is hurricanes, which can temporarily shut refineries and terminals in late summer.
Where Gas Is Cheapest and Most Expensive in Louisiana
Prices are low and remarkably uniform statewide. New Orleans runs only a few cents above the rural parishes, and stations along I-10 and I-12 compete aggressively. During hurricane disruptions, northern Louisiana sometimes stays cheaper than the coast.
