How Kentucky Gets Its Gasoline
Marathon's refinery in Catlettsburg, in Kentucky's northeastern corner near the Ohio and West Virginia borders, is one of the company's largest and supplies gasoline across Kentucky and the broader Appalachian region through Marathon's own pipeline and terminal network. That in-state refining gives Kentucky a supply advantage much of Appalachia lacks.
Where Gas Is Cheapest and Most Expensive in Kentucky
Northeastern Kentucky, closest to the Catlettsburg refinery, and the Louisville area, well served by interstate trucking routes, tend to see the state's lowest prices. Rural southeastern Kentucky, in the mountains farthest from the refinery and interstates, generally runs a bit higher.
